Family Canvas Decor

I know I have been away for a few weeks. Life has been pretty hectic! I came across a picture of something similar to this that my friend had pinned on Pinterest. I decided to try and make it myself and since my future husband said he did not want anything for his birthday I thought it would make a wonderful present/added decor for our living room.

Here is how to make it yourself:

   Supplies:
          • Canvas (one for each letter)
          • Wood letters
          • Scrapbook paper
          • Paint
          • Ribbon
          • Curtain rod
          • Mod Podge (I used glossy finish)

   Steps:
          1. Paint the sides of the canvas
          2. Sand your letters if needed
          3. Paint your letters
          4. Paint a second coat on the canvas and letters
          5. Cut the scrapbook paper to size
          6. Use Mod Podge to adhere the paper to the canvas
          7. Put a layer of Mod Podge over the paper and on the sides
          8. Mod Podge over the letters for a complete look
          9. Cut various lengths of ribbon
          10. Use a hot glue gun to attach the ribbon to the back of the canvas
          11. Use glue to attach the letter the the canvas
          12. Put the finished products on the curtain rod
          13. Hang and enjoy!

I would love for you to share your pictures if you have made one!

How to Make a Fabric Rosette {TUTORIAL}

Hello y'all! I just wanted to share where I got my idea to add the rosette fabric flowers to my refurbished picture frame as seen in my DIY Weekend Project

Here how I made them (sorry I don't have pictures):

SUPPLIES:

  • ~3″ x 22″ strip of fabric {this will make a 2″ diameter rosette} {I just cut up an old t-shirt}
  • ~approx 2″ circle of scrap fabric or felt
  • ~hot glue gun
  • ~scissors

1. Fold your fabric in half so that it measures 1.5″ x 22″ and tie a knot in one end.
2. Tuck or glue the short end of the knot to the long end.
3. Twist the fabric and begin to wrap around the knot.
4. When you reach the desired diameter of your flower, glue the end to the rest of the flower.
5. Take a scrap piece of fabric and glue it to the bottom of the flower.
6. Trim the scrap fabric to fit the flower.
7. Attach your flower to anything you wish!!

Create Fest 2012

Last night, my future husband helped me show off my creative wire hangers at the Create Fest hosted by Grace Community Church. Dozens of locals came out and showed off their talents from photography to custom t-shirt quilts. All of the vendors donated an item or more for a silent auction to help raise money for The Food Initiative in Clarksville. I had a wonderful time and was so thankful for all the wonderful compliments!

DIY Weekend Project

I was going thru my stuff and was planning on having a garage sale, but there was no way I was going to sit out in this heat.

I had an old picture frame that was my future husbands, but it just didn't fit in our house together.

I finally decided to just make something with it. So, I took the frame apart and painted it a dark brown. Then after it dried, I used Mod Podge to give it a glossy look. I took the back of the frame and spray painted it with chalkboard paint so we could write messages to each other. Unfortunately, we didn't have any chalk and I wanted to surprise him when he got home from work. So, I just decided to write a permanent message using puffy paint that I had. I had seen on another blog how to make a rosette out of fabric. I put my own little twist to it. After all was put together this, this is how it turned out. I think its pretty good for a almost free craft and new wall decor. Now, my future husband has something to look at while going to the bathroom.

Lots of love,
Future Mrs. K
